Difference between GAS and ACIDITY
Difference between GAS and ACIDITY
GAS
Gas is primarily caused by swallowing air while eating or drinking, and gases produced during the breakdown of food. When gas is formed in the stomach, it comes out through the mouth through belching (BURPING)or through the rectum(Flatulence) The gas may be foul smelling. The gas is made up of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, methane, hydrogen and oxygen. A burp is created when an excessive amount of gas is produced or retained in the digestive tract as a result of consuming large meals or foods that are particularly hot. When it becomes stuck in the digestive tract or when the digestive system is not functioning properly, it can range from mild to severe and sometimes cause stomach pain. A person may pass gas more than 10 times a day.
Gas symptoms
- Inability to defecate easily
- Feeling pale and bloated
- Stomach cramps
- Stomach ache
- Feeling nauseous (vomiting due to acidity)
- Having a headache
- Feeling lazy and tired
Tips for reducing gas formation
- Eat and drink slowly so that you swallow less air.
- Don't drink carbonated drinks and beer as they release carbon dioxide gas.
- Skip the chewing gum and hard candy as you're swallowing more air.
- Don't smoke. When you inhale smoke, you also inhale and swallow air.

- Limit certain gas causing foods like beans, peas, lentils, cabbage, onions, broccoli, cauliflower, whole-grain foods, mushrooms, certain fruits, and beer
- Read labels. If dairy products seem to be a problem, you may have some degree of lactose intolerance. Pay attention to what you eat and try low-lactose or lactose-free varieties. Certain indigestible carbohydrates found in sugar-free foods, such as sorbitol, mannitol and xylitol, also may result in increased gas.
- Eat fewer fatty foods. Fat slows digestion, giving food more time to ferment.
ACIDITY
Acidity, also known as hyperacidity or acid dyspepsia, refers to the excessive production of stomach acid. It can lead to a sensation of burning or discomfort in the upper abdomen, commonly referred to as heartburn. The stomach normally secretes hydrochloric acid to aid in the digestion of food, but when its production becomes excessive, it results in acidity.
